The Department is headed by a Director Planner. The Department is responsible for development control and regulation of land use, provision of land survey services and promotion of research and development. The Department shall also be responsible for facilitating the formulation and implementation of policies and coordination of cross-cutting issues and climate change adaptation.
The department facilitates the development and implementation of policies, Conduct spatial planning in order to facilitate development and control Of property, Develop and maintain the Valuation Roll on Council properties and land developments, Conduct valuation of properties in order to determine values for rentals/lease agreements, Conduct land surveys for generation of maps, Provide technical support on environmental impact on planned developmental projects, Grant planning permission and Conduct inspections on infrastructure developments in order to ensure adherence to approved plans and mitigate illegal constructions.
The Department ensures adherence to approved plans and mitigate illegal constructions, Provide technical support in the administration of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in order to facilitate approval of projects, Facilitate upgrading of settlements, Coordinate gender mainstreaming and other cross-cutting issues and climate change adaptation, Conduct monitoring and evaluation of planned projects; and Promote research and development.
The Department is comprised of the following Sections;
Physical Planning Section
The Section is responsible for development control and regulation of land use, inspection of buildings projects and provision of land survey services.
The Section comprises three (3) Units as follows:
1. Town Planning Unit
The Unit is responsible for development control and regulation of land use.
2. Buildings Inspectorate Unit
The Unit is responsible for the inspection of building projects in order to facilitate their completion.
3. Survey Unit
The Unit shall be responsible for the provision of land survey services in order to facilitate generation of maps.
Socio-Economic Planning Section
The Section is responsible for coordinating, formulating and reviewing policies and institutional plans in order to provide a framework for effective implementation of programmes and projects. The Section shall also be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of programmes in order to ensure realization of set goals and targets.
Environmental Planning Unit
The Unit is responsible for conducting impact assessments on planned developmental projects in the District.
Valuation Unit
The Unit is responsible for the provision of valuation services in order to facilitate revenue collection for the Council.
District Aids Coordination and Advisory Unit
The Unit Provides HIV counselling and testing services
