The Zambia Devolution Support Program (ZDSP), supported by the World Bank, provides capital grants to selected local authorities to strengthen infrastructure development and improve public service delivery in line with the Government’s devolution agenda. Kalomo Town Council is among the local authorities benefiting from this funding, which has enabled the implementation of key community-focused development initiatives.
Through the 2023–2024 funding phases, the Council received ZMW 2.7 million to support priority projects aimed at enhancing local economic growth and public services. A major component of this support is the Truck Park/Truck Yard Development, designed to provide a safe and convenient resting facility for truck drivers while generating sustainable revenue for the Council. The project is being implemented in phases beginning with fencing works and progressing to the construction of chalets, an ablution block, a water reticulation system, and other essential amenities.
Additional ZDSP supported projects include the construction of a Market Shelter in Mwaata Ward, which will offer traders a weather-proof and secure trading environment. Regular monitoring and evaluation visits by the ZDSP team have reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to delivering tangible, community-responsive developments that improve service delivery and contribute to Kalomo’s socioeconomic growth.
